Service Industry Jobs

If you have a skill that may be useful in the service industry, such as experience with waste water grit removal, and are moving to Rockford, IL, you're probably looking for jobs in that sector. The beautiful thing about the service industry is that every city needs one. The question is: is there room for you? This article will help you find out.

Construction

Rockford is currently in the process of re-inventing itself as a tourist hot spot from its original roots as an industrial town. This means that a lot of old warehouses and factories are ripe for demolition or transformation into new outposts of Haliburton catering companies. Currently about 8% of men in Rockford are employed in the construction industry but with such projects as new hotels, restaurants, and convention centers going up as well as traditional road and building maintenance, this could be a major job growth sector.

Hospitality

Regardless of it size, every city or town finds itself playing host to visitors. As such it needs establishments like hotels, motels, and inns to accommodate people and restaurants where they can eat. Even townies like to eat out every now and then. While the Toronto catering sector is already well established, Rockford's is on the cusp of breaking out thanks to new tourism projects. If you're a business person as well as a server you might consider opening your own establishment, but if not, sit tight because jobs in these areas will increase soon. Currently 5% of men and 7% of women are employed in this sector.

Health Care

There are five health centers in Rockford, Illinois, and pages of listings for smaller practices along the lines of a Home Health Care Burlington or Acupuncture Edmonton. Health care is the one industry that can never really be killed in a recession because people will always get sick. Currently about 4% of men and 18% of women work in this industry and levels are likely to stay the same.

Transport

Rockford's location near the edge of the Chicago metro area makes transportation an important sector. There are bus drivers and light rail operators needed for runs between the two cities, which commuters make popular, and truck drivers for the distribution of the products still manufactured in the city. Even services like vacuum trucks are still needed to clean out rural septic tanks and deal with the portable toilets you'll find on many city construction sites.
